I’m going to be transparent with y’all today. This post hasn’t been researched & isn’t a bunch of notes being organized into a blog post. This is just me, sharing what this well-known verse means to me, today.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you & not to harm you, plans to give you hope & a future.” -Jeremiah 29:11
If you read my very first post, then you know that the “honey” in “Honey Seeking Mom” is a metaphor for all of the blessings that God has promised He has for me. Today is one of those days where, while I am well aware of how far He has brought me & how much I have to be thankful for, I’m also left crying out to God. Saying, “Didn’t you promise that if I faithfully obeyed you, you would open up the windows of heaven & pour out a blessing so large that I would not have room to contain it?! (Malachi 3:10) Here I am Lord, faithful to you, waiting for the rain! And I need it about a week ago!”
The path to receiving our promise is often long & brings us through wilderness seasons. This wilderness season for me is getting much tougher to weather, but I’m so thankful for testimonies I have to look back on, reminding me that there is breakthrough ahead, & it usually comes right when I think I’m reaching the breaking point. There were so many times, back in 2015, when I was at the point of almost losing everything as I was pulling my life together, that God supernaturally provided- for every bill & every meal, He never let us down. There is just a year ago, when I was on medical leave for three months- the entire holiday season, & yet every bill was paid, not a meal was missed. Two children had birthdays & every holiday was celebrated with joy. We wanted for nothing; we lacked no good thing, because God showed Himself as Jehovah Jireh, our Provider.
The honey will rain down soon enough. Maybe not “on time” in my eyes, because in the natural it looks like it’s late & I need a miracle, but right on time in His eyes, which will certainly bring Him glory & honor.
So, as I wait for the rain, I will give Him praise. I know that He has plans for my good. He intends to prosper me, so that I will be abundantly blessed & able to be a blessing to others. His will is never for harm & struggles to cause pain & frustration in our lives. He has filled me with hope as I trust in Him to lead me into the future He has for me. My trust remains in Him & the promises He has made, no matter what the bank account & bills are saying today.
Maybe you’re in a wilderness season too. Take a moment to breathe, Momma. Remember Who your provider is & where your peace comes from. Trust Him to show you what you need to do, while He takes care of what you can’t do. Give it to Him, stand in faith reminding Him of His promises to you; He loves it when we speak His Word back to Him! And if you need someone to stand in faith with you, I’d be happy to! Reach out in the comments here, or contact me here, & I will pray in agreement with you!
–Walking by Faith & Finding the Blessings (& waiting for the rain), Gerri
I find it no accident that I see a recurring theme in blog posts about wilderness experiences. After a 6-year wilderness season (my first full-time ministry), I moved to the area where I currently live and preached about “Lessons from the Wilderness”. It resonated with many and was a series of lessons God taught me. Hold on, Gerri, there is the sound of abundance of rain on the way.

Yes!! That is exactly what I’ve been praying “I see the cloud, I hear the rain, I give You praise in the waiting!!” 🙌 I’ve been seeing the recurring theme in several areas since starting a Bible study of the Israelites in the wilderness, Priscilla Schirer’s One In A Million, it is so good!!
